UPCOMING: The BRC presents State Of Grace — 7/18

BRCgrace

You can now add the iconic Grace Jones–who recently celebrated her 66th birthday on May 19th– to the list of artists that the Black Rock Coalition Orchestra has honored, including Nina Simone, James Brown, WAR, Curtis Mayfield, Betty Davis, Black Women Songwriters, Stevie Wonder, Gil Scott-Heron and more.

This is from the official event page:

Grace Jones is what so many others try to be—multidimensional, international, masculine, feminine, musical, visual, global, iconic, unexpected, irrepressible, undeniable, and Black.

In short, everything the Black Rock Coalition has whole-heartedly supported since its founding almost 30 years ago.

The Black Rock Coalition Orchestra, as part of its residency at Joe’s Pub, will present STATE OF GRACE, a freak-flag waving retrospective of the musical genius behind such enduring anthems as ‘Pull Up To The Bumper’, ‘My Jamaican Guy’, ‘Slave To The Rhythm’, among many others.  Gordon Voidwell, whose latest project, Bad Etudes has been drawing universal critical raves, will serve as creative director.

Expect booties to shake and minds to shimmy in this sultry, sonic salute to the larger-than-life siren whose appeal crosses genres and generations alike.

Also very cool to see both Gordon Voidwell and Tecla in the driver’s seat as co-musical directors on this. Dopeness all around. You get the picture, right? Just get tickets now, as this will most likely sell out.
