LISTENING POST: Meshell Ndegeocello ft Cody ChesnuTT — “To Be Young, Gifted and Black”

@officialmeshell offers another peek at her forthcoming Nina Simone tribute

Like the track you heard with Meshell and Valerie June, this is another track from Meshell’s album that celebrates the music of Nina Simone.  Here she works with Cody ChesnuTT to capture the uplifting strength and beauty infused in the track, originally written by Simone and Weldon Irvine in memory of Simone’s late friend Lorraine Hansberry, author of the play Raisin in the Sun.

Ndegeocello’s forthcoming album, Pour Une Ame Souveraine (For a Sovereign Soul), A Dedication to Nina Simone, will be out October 9, so mark your calendars.
