LISTENING POST: Toro Y Moi — "Still Sound"

New music. This might be what they call "chillwave."


Here’s a new track from South Carolina’s Chaz Bundick, aka Toro Y Moi, who’s readying the follow-up to 2009′s Causers of This Underneath The Pine drop February 22 on Carpark Records.  Critics seemed to really like Causers, which I’m finally digging into.  What’s most prominent to me is the influence of 80′s R&B, among other things, that you hear.  In fact, I was really taken back to the days when I’d sit and listen to R&B radio for hours on end.  I think it’ll be interesting to see where he’s gone from there.

Side note:  While Chaz is considered by many to be a “chillwave” artist, apparently there’s some disagreement over whether or not it even constitutes a genre.
