Listening Post: V.V. Brown–"Bottles"

"do[sic] wop indie, whilst traveling on a rocket, all the way up into the deepest part of outer space."

That's how UK singer VV Brown describes herself.  You'll definitely hear the throwback-y, doo wop-iness in her songs, particularly the current single "Leave".  But I'm always prefer to check artists out live, so it was a pleasure to see this video of her performing live on BBC2's "Later. . .with Jools Holland".  Nice groove to the song, and her intonation reminds me of Grace Jones, so I'm hooked enough to want to hear more.

Unfortunately, her music isn't readily available for purchase here in the States.  However, if you join her mailing list, you can get a free download of her song "Quick Fix," which should hold you until the album drops on this side of the pond.  In the meantime, there seems to be a ton of video on YouTube.

Hat tip to Kaos Blac, who's seems to be steady bloggin' his adventures on the Black rock/Afro-punk scene.
