Weekend Preview: Pan-African James Brown tribute; Loud Lovin' + more!

Choices, choices, choices this weekend, particularly the one you’re going to have to make tomorrow.  Sorry, that’s the way it goes in NYC.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 21

Still Black, Still Proud: An African Tribute to James Brown (New York debut)

Yes, this sounds like fire, right?

Musical direction by Pee Wee Ellis and Fred Wesley, "cornerstones of Brown’s legendary band on saxophone and trombone, respectively".  Ellis and Wesley have put together a "pan-continental supergroup which features special guests Vieux Farka Touré, the rising Malian star and son of the legendary Ali Farka Toure, and the spiritual and enigmatic Senegalese vocalist Cheikh Lô", all in tribute to the Godfather of Soul.
